Here is the first guitar I made, in a class given by local luthier Harry Fleishman. It’s a parlor style steel string with an abalone dogwood flower inlayed on the head stock.
This is my second guitar, made in my own shop to my own design. At first glance it looks like a large guitar with a cutout. But I think of it as two guitars in one: a jumbo dreadnaught guitar with a long scale in the bass, and a smaller parlor guitar with a shorter scale in the treble. The two scale lengths create the fan frets. The body has the same amount of air volume as a Martin D-28, but the upper bout is shallow at the top to make it easier to get your arm over it, and the lower bout at the bottom is quite thick. The sides and back are waterfall grain bubinga and the top is spruce.
